Las Lajas, as an architectural luxury, was built to commemorate the legendary story that took place here in 1754. The legend states that local Indian Maria Mueces was walking here with her deaf daughter, Rosa, when a fierce storm caught up to them. They both began looking for a shelter from the rapidly rising level of torrent, when Rosa screamed at once and pointed at the luminous silhouette on the rock. "Miraculously", nothing happened to them, and despite the unpleasant rain they returned home safely. This revelation subsequently brought pilgrims from near and far.
