He was born on May 17, 1949 in Prague and graduated from a general education secondary school. He began his musical career in the 1960s with Rebels, a band that continued in the 1970s as part of the Olympic band. Only a few years later he started a solo career. He started to gain success in the 1980s, when he started appearing on the television program Možná přijde i kouzelník. Here the singer began to change into a dancer and a tap dancer.
