The fashion event of the year, MET GALA, will be held at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City on May 6th. Always thematic, luxurious, chic and unique. The pressure of Anna Wintour’s perfectionism, however, appeared to break some people’s fragile minds. As a result of this, they arrived in bat-shit crazy models... Check out the five scariest ones!
MET GALA, Madonna, 2016
For the luxury 2016 party, carrying the theme "Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology", Madonna dressed up in her own style. Forget about any connection with the theme. At that time, Madonna had had her eyes set on one particular charming boy toy, which is why she went all in. Check out her who-needs-underwear model from Riccardo Tisci - Givenchy!
Sandra Lee, a horror movie bride
In 2014, the theme was "Charles James: Beyond Fashion". The famous American TV host wore a wedding dress from the first half of the 1980s that was more than a little too busy. I'm not even sure if something like that could have been in back then. Anyway, she certainly didn't get lost in the crowd in this outfit - and the fashion designer, Dara Lamb, wasn’t heard of for quite some time after this fiasco.
John Galliano as a butterfly with a curl
The year 2001 carried in the spirit of "Jacqueline Kennedy: Summer in the White House". But John seemed to have believed it was a visit to Alice in Wonderland, wearing his luxurious Dior Butterfly suit. Poor Jacque must have been turning in her grave due to this atrocity!
In bed with Karolína Kurková
Top model Karolína Kurková was invited by Anna Wintour multiple times. Back in 2005, the theme was the "Chanel Fashion House". I understand that Carolina wanted to express her undying love for this brand with the help of a gown from Viktor & Rolf. However, her giant skirt resembling a large duvet in a satin cover was a complete disaster!
Disco dancing Victoria Beckham
I bet Victoria wished to forget this day. The current queen of minimalism decided to hit the 2003 MET GALA with the theme of "Goddess: The Classic Way" in a mini dress from Dolce & Gabbana with a giant neckline revealing her then new silicone boobs and a bare belly. Perhaps it was the photos documenting the model that made her decide to follow a dramatically different fashion path from then on.
This year's theme will be Camp: Notes on Fashion, where "camp" is understood as a tendency to theatricality through imagination and hyperbole. Sounds promising, don't you think?
